what is the world coming to?

I have to ask...what is the world coming to? what is so wrong with americans that they feel the need to kill each other and perfect strangers for no apparent reason? i will never understand.. In any other country (excluding third world countries) where government is established, poverty is at a minimum and people are free for the most part, you dont hear of school shootings. there are no Amish school houses gunned down, or random people or students killed in schools. this is a purely american invention. as someone who is as proud as can be to be an american this is very depressing. it forces you to look at the problems in our society and realize that things are not as easy and perfect as they seem to some of us. i come from a low income family, i grew up in an area where we had metal detectors in our schools and random searches that turned up guns more often than not. there were gang wars and crime and bars on the window. but people look at me, see little white blond girl, and assume that life is peachy and easy and that i have money and things just magically work out for me. let me tell you that does not happen, and even so, even having little money and being evicted from apartments and being mugged twice before i turned 18, i am still happy to live in this county. i still know that we have it better than most. yes there are flaws to our system. a lot of people argue that health care, college etc should be free. and i agree, but show me a budget where this is possible and ill be all for it. people complain about those that run this country and yet have no desire to do anything to change it. the number of people that actually get off their asses and vote diminishes every year. my age group of 18-25 is by far the worst offender. and there is not a day that i dont walk into a political debate of some type and find myself livid that people dare to complain but will do nothing to change it.

and today i sit down at my desk at my job on Park Ave in Manhattan that i worked my ass of to get to, and i turn on my computer and see reports of up to 32 people dead in a Virginia Tech shooting. i just do not understand. what is it that makes people do this? why do we keep killing each other? with all the known threats in this world, with 911 and terrorism and the constant threat of being attacked, why do we have to make things worse by killing each other instead? are people really this weak? that when they feel wronged they cant handle it and feel that they need to kill innocent people to make things right? i just will never understand. i have sat and watched the death toll climb every hour, with still no idea who did this or why. but can their really be a why?

here is where i give my opinion on gun control. which is shit on and hated by many of my friends and im sure even more so by people who dont know me. but i have had too many experiences with guns and here is what it comes down to. the average american does not need to have the right to own a gun. there is no reason why you should be able to walk into a Wal-mart and buy a shotgun. there is no reason why a 12 year old should be able to get a gun license. to be quite honest all you hunters can go f*** yourselves. you dont need to hunt for your food..this is not an unsettled lawless country where you need to be able to have a gun to protect and feed your family. this is the year 2007, not 1776. we do not need a militia. i am so tired of hearing rednecks complain that * i needs to protects my family*. That is bullshit and you all know it. i see no reason why anyone other than law enforcement or the military need to have guns. and thats just that.
but at least, AT LEAST, there needs to be better education and a better screening process for people who are looking to buy a gun. maybe this stores need to be government owned and run. maybe a background check should be given instead of just handing a gun to a psychopath. if you are willing to wait three days almost anyone can buy a gun, and thats just absurd.

this country needs to remember that each other are not the enemy. we are being attacked enough by those outside, lets try to keep the peace inside..
